Teaching Philosophy
Though learning music is a process, which can involve some challenges, it should remain a positive experience throughout. My goal is to start beginners on a positive 'note', which inherently carries them forward on a journey learning about the instrument and developing musicianship along the way. For those who are already more experienced players, I focus on teaching advanced repertoire and bowing techniques, which will inspire and engage the student for years to come. Though my main focus as an instructor is on fiddle music (old-time, cajun and scandinavian), I enjoy teaching beginners and children the fundamentals of music theory and site reading. For the more advanced musician, I cater to the needs of the student, often pulling in rhythm backup (guitar or banjo) for a taste of real-life session experience. Whether old or young, beginner or advanced instrumentalist, classically trained or self-taught, the fiddle lessons will be fun and inspiring as a window into the world of music opens.
