I've never used a blog before, but here goes:
There has been a lot going on this summer...alongside good shows and the gardening of course, I've been a part of a few interesting projects lately.
Perennials Project: In the spring, a fun group of academics working on a multi-media project, swung through town and made a short documentary about arts on the East Coast. We had a video made, pictures taken, and some tunes together. Check it out here: http://www.perennialsproject.com
Recording: in July, Wooden Dinosaur set to the studio and recorded a full-length album due to come out this fall or winter. It turned out GREAT, I can't wait to share it with you all. Sounds include our horn section, drums, bass, violin, songs and guitars. A little bit of noise and a lot of beautiful songwriting...
VPR: Wooden Dinosaur will be on Vermont Edition, with a live studio show coming up in October. More about that to come...
Kids Magazine: Kids Magazine is doing an article about the Summit School, fiddling and my diverse musical career ...coming in August. It was a blast working with the staff on this, it's one move to try to get kids playing more traditional music.
Kids Folk Music Camp: Speaking of Kids, the Summit School had our first Folk Music Camp for Kids last week. It was so much fun, with a great line-up of teachers and 8 young campers. It brought a whole new energy to the summer.
Lastly, I want to mention how exciting it has been collaborating with various members of Crooked Still. Katie Trautz and the Tall Boys had a run of shows in June with Greg Liszt, the well-known banjo player, along with his prodigy young bandmates who all of course are Berkely Grads and are somehow related to or involved with David Grisman and his band. In September, we will be sharing the stage at the Rockwood Music Hall in NYC with Crooked Still's singer Aoife O'Donovan. Can't wait!
My next appearance will be at the Huntington Valley Stage, Aug. 13th. Hope to see you there!
