We had a great time at the festival-Louisiana really knows how to celebrate music and throw a good party! We got to see red stick ramblers last night and dance it up. This morning we went out to breakfast at cochon, a very nice restaurant, and listened to Foghorn Stringband joined by special guest Alan Jabbour. how lucky are we?? Tonight we go to the after party at lake view campground, we'll be hearing Cedric Watson and Miss Tess (a fellow New Englander). We've been hearing about the storm in the north, and send love to all our families.

We had an strange turn of events I have kept from the blog until now. One of our camp mates, Jeremy, had a swollen hand and arm for three days. We thought he had an allergic reaction to a big bite or a spider bite, but as the swelling got worse and kept up his arm, we decide the est thing was to take him to the hospital. Unfortunately, with his birthday only a day away, an Blackpot festival was just getting started. Jeremy was pretty bummed. After some hours of waiting, we heard from the doctors that we had a blood clot in his arm and would need to stay the night in the hospital. Better to be safe than sorry-Jeremy had a good night of rest, some meds, and some delicious southern hospital food and by next day the clot had disappeared. We went to pick him up the next day and took the opportunity to clean up using the luxiourious shower in his private hospital room, and order room service while we were at it...breakfast biscuit sandwiches...Mmmmm. Jeremy is doing fine now, we're happy to celebrate his birthday with him today!
We are here at the Blackpot festival now in Lafayette. We've had a few adventures over the past couple, lots of good jams, some excellent Cajun cooking, and tons of dancing. We can't wait to bring the two-step north with us...watch out Vermont! We are so lucky to be watching such excellent musicians and bands including pine leaf boys, kaleb and reeb from foghorn stringband, and Ginny hawker and Tracy schwartz. Did you know that Louisiana has drive through daiquiri bars???
Blackpot Camp is awesome! We've set up camp and settled in for a few days here in Eunice, LA. It's 80 degrees and sunny. Fiddles sing and the dance floor is rockin all night long...the moon is full and we are happy!
Wow! We got to Morgantown, WV and played an excellent gig at the black bear burrito. After tunes, busking at the stadium before the big game, delicious food, and a hot coffee for the road we were off and running again. We drove through the night with a fearless Jeremy Silansky at the wheel and sleeping bodies strewn across the floor and van seats. Dawn broke over the Tennessee river and cotton fields lined the Natchez Trail as we made our journey south. 7 hours to go...
After a marathon day traveling 6 hours to Ithaca, NY and playing two shows: one at Lot 10 and the other at Oasis Dance Club, and then staying up all night playing tunes with some great old time musicians-we are on the road again heading towards Morgantown, WV....on three hours of sleep!
